The inception of Long Beach Islamic Center (LBIC) was in 2003.
Sheikh Tariq Mohammed, a Muslim Scholar and a community activist, led the effort to build a mosque for Long Beach community.
The first location for LBIC is a building that was a car repair garage.
The Muslim community in Long Beach worked together clean the garage and establish it as a mosque.
